Here’s a glossary of terms used and options for MATOS® units:


Matos® Eco

Matos Eco

The Matos® Eco fridge series is a new range of purpose-built Medical and Vaccination refrigerators, where the cabinet and componentry have been specially designed for use in the medical field, reaching a high quality finish.

Applications: storage of vaccine and pharmaceutical products, water, sewage samples and piezometer leachate, reagents, chemicals, food and meat products, any product that requires temperatures between 0°C and +10°C.

Standard features include:

  • Increased energy efficiency and kinder to the environment.
  • Fan management system: a unique fan control system which keeps your stock cooler in the unlikely event of a compressor failure.
  • Solid door or glass options
  • Lock fitted as standard
  • Auto-defrost while maintaining the temperature below 8°C.
  • 5 year extended warranty when serviced by an approved service technician.

Matos® Cloud

Matos Cloud

The MATOS® Cloud fridge series is a new range of purpose-built medical and vaccination refrigerators utilising patented technology (European patent application 12846969.9) The cabinet and componentry have been specially designed for use in the medical field, reaching a high quality finish.

Applications: storage of vaccine and pharmaceutical products, water, sewage samples and piezometer leachate, reagents, chemicals, food and meat products, any product that requires temperatures between 0°C and +10°C.

Standard features include:

  • Built-in temperature monitoring capability even with loss of power
  • MATOS® control system ensures that stock is protected in the event of a controller failure.
  • Increased energy efficiency and kinder to the environment.
  • Solid or glass door options
  • Fan management system: a unique fan control system which keeps your stock cooler in the unlikely event of a compressor failure.
  • Lock fitted as standard
  • Auto defrost while maintaining the temperature below 8°C.
  • 5 year extended warranty when serviced by an approved service technician.

Standard (STD) vs Tropical (TROP) versions

  • The STD version has a smaller compressor than the TROP version
  • The STD version is tested to run in ambient temperature of 10°C to 28°C.
  • The TROP version is tested to run in ambient temperature of 10°C to 42°C.

Compressor Defrost

The base model comes with a programmable compressor defrost cycle. ie:

  • The compressor is turned off for a period of time to warm the evaporator plate, and thus melt any ice.
  • This will lift the internal chamber air temperature by about 2.5° – 3.0° for a period of about 6-10 mins.

Hot Gas Defrost

The hot gas defrost is also programmable (if installed on the unit) to flush the evaporator plate with hot gas.

  • This can be set to run for 30 seconds (usual) to a maximum of 2 minutes. At 30 seconds, the internal air temperature raises about 1°C.

Gas vs Compressor defrost

When most refrigerators go into a defrost cycle, they simply turn the compressor off for an extended period, and let the inside of the cabinet warm up to melt any ice build-up. This is known as a passive defrost

However, as the defrost cycle can take as long as 25 minutes, the interior temperature could increase to above 8°C.

To avoid temperature breaches, this is dealt with in one of two ways:

1/. An additional delay is added to the temperature alarm, so it does not go off during the defrost cycle, however this would show up if the user has their own secondary probe or temperature datalogger in the cabinet;

Or

2/. If the temperature rises too much, the defrost cycle is stopped early. In this case, there can still be an ice build-up over time because of the incomplete defrost cycles.

Our hot gas defrost system works by diverting hot refrigerant gas, directly into the evaporator (cooling plate), which heats the ice directly from the inside out. This ensures the correct temperature is maintained within the chamber during the defrost cycle, whilst keeping the time between cooling cycles as short as possible.

The condensate water from the defrost cycles flows through a pipe to a tray outside the cabinet where it evaporates away into the surrounding atmosphere.


Door Gasket Heater

Are included in our production of all larger units.


Castors

Are included in our production of all units over 200 litre size. The size and strength of the castors increases with unit weight.


Included extras

All fridges have the following attributes included in our standard manufacture

  • Lights
  • Compressor Defrost Programme
  • Door Locks
  • Door Open Alarm
  • Access Ports

Operating Temperatures

Due to compressors used on the MATOS® fridges, you are able to run a relatively close operating band with very little oscillation of temperatures. (eg. 3°-4°). Cooldown after events like door opening is very quick, so product is not exposed to warmer conditions for long.

The MATOS® fridges can be set to lower ranges of temperature to meet specific product requirements:

  • e.g. Mothers milk etc. – require temps of about 2° with only about 1° oscillation.

For these products it would be best to be using the hot gas defrost, as the compressor defrost will warm up the chamber too much. At lower temperatures you get more issues with ice on the evaporator plate.


Production

The standard production time to produce new orders is 8 weeks. Sometimes this can be less – but please do Contact Us to check.


Options

The standard option of interior lining is aluminium, however stainless steel is available.  Other options are also available, such as internal drawers, as per the accessories sheet.


Combo Units

Several options are available to stack 2 Fridges/Thermostatic Chambers/Freezers as a combo unit. They operate separately under their own controllers/compressors.
